Welcome to my blog!

Updated: Nov 19, 2019

I am so excited to tell everyone about my upcoming book, "The Light Giver and Other Stories to Raise Emotionally Healthy Children." Some of you may already know that children are my passion, which is why I decided to become a teacher so many years ago. What you may not know is that I have devoted the past few years into building a program to address children's social and emotional needs. It's alarming and heartbreaking to see how much children are suffering today. We live in a world where children and teens are dealing with depression, cutting, eating disorders, bullying, school shootings and incredibly high suicide rates. The children are hurting, and I felt compelled to try and do something about it. "The Light Giver Stories" is a collection of 22 children's stories that address children's social and emotional needs. The stories can be read to children as young as five and can be enjoyed by children up to the age of twelve. The majority of the stories center on children, and address difficulties and real-life challenges they face. Discussion questions and a helpful list of vocabulary words are included with each story. In addition, I have created a workbook, that contains follow-up lessons or corresponding discussions to further address the topics found in the story. While the lessons were designed to complement each story, each one can stand alone and can be used without having read the story beforehand. Each was specifically designed to be used by anyone, and not exclusively by educators. The stories and lessons address a variety of topics like facing discouragement, fear, disappointment and envy, and teach children coping skills to deal with these emotions. There are others that stress the importance of patience, kindness, compassion, and striving to become your personal best without expecting perfection or comparing yourselves to others. "The Light Giver Stories" also teach children the personal fulfilment that comes by helping others. Finally, this program is a wonderful way to help strengthen the relationships between adults and children.

One of the key factors considered when putting this program together was the challenge of parents’ and educators’ time constraints. Meeting every child’s needs, whether personal or academic, is a daunting challenge. While the stories and lessons from "The Light Giver" take only a few minutes of your time, the lessons learned are so beneficial, as is the insight it can provide for you about a child. The time spent connecting with each other will prove to be an immeasurable investment in the long-term bond between you and the child. While this program is not available for purchase yet, I will be posting some helpful information here for parents and educators to use. I also plan on doing some workshops for parents and schools in the future. If you are interested in finding out more information about these books or have any other questions, feel free to message me. Thanks...Peggy
